OFFICIAL TOWN OPENING CEREMONY

Saturday May 18th - 1pm
Rain Date: Sunday, May 19th - 1pm, 2013

WOODSTOCK WATERFALL™ PARK
8d Tannery Brook Road

DEDICATION

Where once a tannery operated, this sculpted rock ledge and pristine waterfall over which the Tannery Brook flows has been a hidden jewel for many years. Long at the center of Woodstock life as it travels through the heart of Woodstock, Tannery Brook represents Woodstock's evolution from the destruction of 19th century industrialization to the communal and environmental quality of Woodstock life today.

Constructed on land generously donated by Lila and Norman Bacon and built with the assistance of the Town of Woodstock, the Woodstock Waterfall ™ Park is dedicated to the citizens of Woodstock with acknowledgment of our shared history and as a symbol of commitment to our environmental future.

*************************************************************

MISSION STATEMENT

1. To bring an educational awareness of the rich history that the Tannery Brook has played in Woodstock, since its early days to the present.

2. To inspire communion with nature and the rejuvenating experience if offers.

3. To enhance our community through beautification.

4. To enhance our community through communal spaces.

5. To enhance our local community's business ecology.

*************************************************************

We have chosen May 18th as the official opening date, because there are still many things to be done, such as a cross walk, planter boxes and flowers, benches, an information display, etc., and current seasonal considerations.

Because the heavy construction is now complete, all are welcome to come in to see what has been done, so far.

It is with loving hands, that so many Woodstockers have participated in and have touched this wonderful project. It has been three years in the making.

I have taken many pictures and videos of the process from the very beginning.

Special thanks is given to Ben Schachter and the Town Beautification Task Force, the previous and current town supervisors, the previous and current town board members, the highway department, and many thanks to my all good business and private neighbors on both sides, of the stream who have shown enthusiastic support right from the beginning.

I will be more specific in a future letter to the papers prior to the official opening as there are more jobs to complete and therefore there will be more people to acknowledge.

I am currently working with our town historian, Richard Heppner, gathering as much information as possible about the role the Tannery Brook has played in the rich history of Woodstock, dating as far back as possible. We are planning an informational display and lecture at the opening. So far, his research has revealed a lot. We are asking if anyone has any information, pictures, etc.. to please get in touch. We are trying to gather as much information, as soon as possible. Putting all this information together in a professional display and working with town procedures and requirements to get final approvals, takes time, so the sooner we get all the information together the better for us.

Please email me directly info@normanbacon.com, or call (845) 399 7110.

The WOODSTOCK WATERFALL™ PARK on the Tannery Brook has been and will be, even after its opening, an evolving communal work in progress. I look forward to seeing you at the official opening May 18th, 1pm.
